Our team

Board of directors

Brad Farrell, Chairman
Brad has some 45 years’ experience in the resources industry. During this time he has been involved in several significant mineral sands discoveries and developments including Sierra Leone (Rotifunk); Western Australia (Scott Coastal Plain and Gwindinup – mined by BeMax Ltd); and the Murray Basin of Victoria and NSW. He was the founder, Managing Director and Executive Chairman of Basin Minerals Ltd which developed the Douglas Mineral Sands Project in Victoria before merging with Iluka Resources in October 2002.

Neil O’Loughlin, Executive Director – Technical & Project Development
Neil is a geologist with over 30 years’ experience in mineral exploration and mine development. In the mineral sands industry, he is well known as the co-founder and Executive Director of Basin Minerals Ltd which developed the Douglas Mineral Sands Project in Victoria before merging with Iluka Resources in 2002.

Brad Pettersson, Finance Director
Brad is an accountant with 25 years experience specialising in tax law and commercial transactions. He commenced work with Arthur Andersen Sydney and became a Tax Partner with Ernst & Young within the Corporate and International Tax Practice. He then became Managing Director of Mining Advisory Consultants, a company providing support to clients in transactions, the financing of transactions, and effective tax structuring.  Brad has held various advisory roles specialising in the Mining industry around financial strategy and M&A.

Robert Bishop, Non-Executive Director
Rob is a Chemical Engineer with 20 years’ experience in the mining sector, including mineral sands at Tiwest Mineral Sands in Western Australia. As well as practical mining experience, Rob has spent over 10 years in the finance industry focusing on the resources sector. Rob is a founding director of Kalbar Limited, and was formerly Managing Director and Executive Chairman of Kalbar Limited.

Jim Kerr, Non-Executive Director
Jim is a Geologist who has over 25 years’ experience in the global mining industry having developed projects across the commodity spectrum in Australia, Asia-Pacific and Sub-Sahara Africa. He has held senior executive roles for companies including Iscor, Barrick Gold Corporation, Mincor, Tethyan Copper, Lithic Metals and Energy (as MD) and Hillgrove Resources.

Ian Warden, Non-Executive Director
Ian is a Geologist with over a decade of industry experience in coal and nickel exploration, coal and iron ore marketing and market research, and nickel processing technology development. He has held positions with Rio Tinto, AME Mineral Economics, and most recently with Direct Nickel as their Project Development Manager and President Director of their Indonesian subsidiary PT Direct Nickel.

Company Secretary

Rob Waring
Rob has over 40 years’ worth of experience in financial and corporate roles, including over 25 years in Company Secretarial roles for ASX-listed companies, and over 20 years as a Director of ASX-listed companies.  He has significant company secretarial experience for both listed and unlisted companies, and is a Director of Oakhill Hamilton Pty Ltd (which provides secretarial and corporate advisory services to a range of listed and unlisted companies), and was formerly a Non-Executive Director of Kalbar.

Executive team

Jozsef Patarica, Chief Executive Officer

Jozsef Patarica is a mining executive with a strong track record in the mining industry spanning close to 30 years, including 19 years of board experience. Throughout his career he has been involved in senior management, operational and evaluation roles in a range of projects in terms of scale and commodity, principally across Australia, West Africa and South America. Prior to joining Kalbar, Jozsef was chief operating officer of Mineral Deposits Limited (MDL) for three years during which time he represented MDL’s interests in the TiZir Joint Venture on the boards of TiZir Limited, Grande Côte Operations SA (GCO) and TiZir Titanium & Iron in Norway. He also performed the role of chief executive officer at GCO for a year. Before MDL, Jozsef spent eight years as a director, including five years as Managing Director/CEO, of ASX-listed Bassari Resources Limited, a company focused on discovering and developing multimillion ounce gold deposits in the Birimian Gold Belt, Senegal, West Africa. He was involved in the development and operational management of the Fosterville Gold Mine (BIOX) in Victoria with Northgate Australia and, earlier with Placer Dome Asia Pacific, Jozsef was involved in major project work at the Henty Gold Mine in Tasmania before transferring to Placer’s corporate and project development group. He was involved in the construction and commissioning of Cadia Hill gold mine in New South Wales for Newcrest Mining and earlier was part of the team which successfully constructed and commissioned the stage 3 expansion of the Fimiston plant for Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines

Chris Cook, Regional Manager, Gippsland
Chris is a Civil Engineer and business manager with over 20 years’ experience in management of businesses and civil infrastructure projects. Chris has held management positions within large multi-national companies such as BHP, Fletcher Building and AECOM in Victoria, WA, Queensland and in East Gippsland. He was previously a Board Member of Gippsland Ports.
